Africa is a great place for arts and crafts. In Africa the art work is made out of wood and stones, which will mainly be in the form of statues, musical instruments, paintings, decorative items or drums. And commonly they carve statues in the form of a human being which represent their leaders or great peoples. African people usually don’t show affection among each other, they make their art work which resembles their tradition.

Most of the time the statues of animals will be included with human sculptures to honor great people and to respect them. Because animals like horse are well known as noble animals, when a persons figure is carved with this kind of animals, that person is considered as a noble person, who should be respected. The carvings are mostly made out of wood and stones.

There are many evidences which show that African arts could be found as early as 500BC. In some places of Sahara and Nigeria there are sculptures carved on rocks and woods. Metals like Bronze were also used by the people to make statues out of it. They even used terracotta and ivory to make their art work more rich, which was usually reserved for royalties. These kind of unique art pieces were the decorative items for many houses in those days. People use to wear fabrics made with art work, which resembles the wearer as a part of an art piece. They even made wall paintings which were made out of wood and they used it as decorative items.

African arts and crafts mainly resembles it’s tradition. Every single piece of art resembles the culture and daily life of African people. Many historical African arts can be found in museums, one of the best examples is the African Mask. African people mainly used masks at the time of wars. And they even used it in some religious occasions and also on the day of harvesting.

They design the masks according to their county or tribe, each design has its own kind of pattern and style. For example the Dan people of Ivory Coast and Liberia carve their masks with features such as wide fore head, flattened nose, full lips, and the strands of rope attached at the top of masks to make it look like hairs. The people of Congo in Punu make their masks with wood and paint it in white color, which resembles rich women. And they use these masks to scare off evil spirits and witches.

African baskets are another art which was made in old African tradition. There are some particular places in Africa where baskets are famous, like Esths and Gumare tribes. In those day’s the basketry were usually carried over the head, as the culture grew, two ropes were tied on each side of basket and they were carried in hands and named as handbags. As a result many unique and rich varieties of hand bags were made with some appealing arts on it. They even used materials such as mud cloth and suede to make bags. Even today African arts and crafts are in a great demand among people as they are very magnificent.

Blind children can learn to play a musical instrument just as well and often even better than, sighted children provided the desire and interest is there. Blind children often have a strong sense of rhythm and musical sensation since their hearing is more in tuned with the world.

Of course the assumption should not be made that just because they are blind they should play a musical instrument. However if a child or an adult who is visually impaired decides that playing a musical instrument is something they would find beneficial, then by all means, there should be every consideration made just as you would for a sighted individual.

There are instruments which are better suited for the visually impaired than others. Most string instruments are a good musical instrument for the visually impaired because the strings can be easily felt in order, especially for the violin, viola, and cello.

The piano and woodwind musical instruments can also make very good choices for the visually impaired when learning to play a musical instrument. They are considered the easiest of the musical instruments to memorize tactilely and are fairly versatile in the musical arrangements they can be applied to playing. However, there is of course no restriction to the possibilities.

It is usually not necessary to find the visually impaired musical student a specially trained music teacher. A teacher that is creative and patient (which we would hope all music teachers are) should be able to help the visually impaired student feel the musical instrument of their choice in order to learn to play it competently. Musical instruments often are able to be handled by the visually impaired simply because their design and structure is quite unique from a tactile standpoint.

Children and adults from all walks of life should learn to play at least one musical instrument. Learning to play a musical instrument teaches so many skills at once that it can be difficult to find a downfall to learning to play a musical instrument regardless of who you are, where you come from, or what type of disability you may bring to the table. It should never be assumed that simply because an individual doesn’t see the world that they can’t fully participate in it. Learning to play a musical instrument is just one way of reaching out through the world and bringing the world as we know it to life.
