Quick and Easy Homemade Band Instruments by Autumn Lockwood

Even if you do not have a piano or some other musical instrument in your house, you are able to still produce a variety of fun band instruments. Crafting your own instruments can be a fun activity for the kids trying to find a way of spending a lazy afternoon. As a matter of fact, adults can have as much fun as children once they make and play their own unique instruments. Should you have a large group of children or adults, you will be able to make your own impromptu band, which may be an enjoyable experience. If so, be sure to take lots of photos of your band in action, since these photos might be a lot of fun to showcase in collage picture frames. Here are several fun, inexpensive, and simple ways to help you to get started on your homemade instruments.

Maracas from Coffee Cans

To make a coffee can maraca, all you need is a metallic coffee can, some dried peas or popcorn kernels, a roll of tape, and decorations if desired. Simply remove the plastic lid from a clean can and add a handful of dried beans or popcorn. Put the lid back on the can and tape it securely on. Decorate the can in whatever way that you would like, perhaps with construction paper or some other embellishments. To play your homemade maracas, simply shake the can.

Aluminum Pie Pan Tambourines

No matter how old you are, tambourines are a fun instrument to play. To produce your own, you start with two disposable aluminum pie pans. Nest the two pans together, and use an awl and also a wooden block to punch several holes through the edges of both pans. When finished, flip them in order that the open sides of the pans are facing each other. Use some yarn to string or sew the plates together, while threading a jingle bell on the yarn in between each hole. Knot your yarn, and decorate the tambourine if desired.

Oatmeal Canister Drum

Both children and adults love drums. Once you make one of these drums, be sure to take a picture of the individual playing it to display in a fun picture frame. If you want a relatively inexpensive drum, take an empty oatmeal canister and punch two holes straight across from each other, about an inch from the top. Thread a bit of yarn throughout the holes, knotting inside. A good option is to run the thread through a pony bead or small spool and knot it, which assists to help keep the knot from pulling out of the canister. If one makes the yarn long enough the drum may be comfortably hung around the neck while playing. Then, place the lid on the container, and decorate as desired. If you would like to create some drumsticks, it is possible to do this by gluing two small beads or spools to the ends of two unsharpened wooden pencils.

Produce A Humming Comb

The humming comb is a classic homemade instrument. For this instrument, you only need a bit of tissue or waxed paper along with a simple plastic pocket comb. Position the paper on the comb and fold the paper on the teeth edge. Next, just put the comb on your lips and start to hum. The paper will vibrate, creating an appealing musical sound.

Let the Music Commence

When you have made yourself a number of musical instruments, gather everyone together to play. Make sure that you take lots of photos, and display your favorites in some 4×6 picture frames.
