“Saturday Night Live,” Flaming Lips Remember Jobs With Tributes (Mobiledia)

Comedians and musicians alike are offering unique tributes to late Apple co-
founder Steve Jobs, remembering the man whose innovations brought so many
changes to their professions.

The Flaming Lips, a band known for its experimental music, is planning a
special tribute to Jobs at the O Music Awards, where they will play a version
of the Beatles’ “Revolution” using an iPad as their only instrument.

Meanwhile, a Saturday Night Live dress rehearsal sketch is making the rounds
on the Internet, poking fun at several top industry executives, such as
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and media giant Rupert Murdoch, who publicly
mourned Jobs’ death.

The Flaming Lips tribute will be part of the O Music Awards on October 31, and
the performance is expected to be streamed live on omusicawards.com during the
MTV event. The band says it looks up to Jobs and his achievements, and wanted
to give him a special tribute.

The Flaming Lips’ use of the iPad may be the largest exposure of the device as
a musical instrument, which is one function Jobs himself never used during his
dramatic product launches.
